My nature is to have an awareness of  the aesthetic world around me. I’m interested in subjects and surroundings with strong light, shadows and reflections that evoke inspiration for my studio work.  As a child, inspiration came from my artistic mother, who did portraits in oil.  She posted on our refrigerator the quote from Hippocrates: ” Life is short, Art is long.”  I understand that now more than ever.

These days I am working primarily in pastel and clay.  In 2018 I joined the artists in Building 30 (@building30west ) and the joys of a dedicated studio have proved to be bountiful for my creative process and unmatched for my general wellbeing.

The Scientific Illustration Program at UW gave me the foundation to represent things accurately in drawing and painting.

Working in watercolor, ink, colored pencil, and now pastels has given me a broad range of creative experience. I have attended many hours of instructional workshops and classes to expand my creative skills.

In 2002 I began my study of ceramics in the Seattle area.  On the wheel, I make functional ceramics for everyday use as well as decorative pieces for display. I enjoy the process of turning a lump of clay into something that is both attractive and useful.

Time in the studio makes me grateful for the people who have helped make my dream a reality and for my incredible good fortune to have something I am passionate about.
